of Holy Communion

         Schedules

January           February        March

Messiah Procedures

Notes from Last Quarter's Schedule

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

SCHEDULE FOR JANUARY - MARCH

GENERAL NOTES:

I will be retiring on January 2, 2010.  No, not from the EMHC Apostolate, just from servile work for my current employer. Therefore, effective December 31, 2009, I will no longer be able to receive e-mails at the address some of you are accustomed to sending them.  Below is the new e-mail address you can use to request OFF days or for any other matter, EMHC-related or otherwise.  As usual, I will always respond to any e-mail I get, so you know that I received it.  I just may not be doing it as timely as in the past.  But if you haven’t heard back in a couple of days, you may want to try again, or else call me with your requests.

On a related matter, if anyone has gotten a new e-mail address in the past 6 months, please let me know, so I can keep everyone current on the H1N1 Cup ban and other procedural changes, etc.

Speaking of retirement, our prayers and thanks go with Connie Romagnoli, Don Plunkett, and John Seroskie as they retire from the Extraordinary Minister Apostolate.  With their leaving, for the first time since the Parish’s founding 32½ years ago, we now have more EMHC’s who are retired than who are active (79 vs 76).

The deadline for requests for off-days, etc. to ensure that they can be properly considered in time before the next Schedule (APRIL - JUNE) comes out is SUNDAY, MARCH 7.

H1N1 Flu Update:

(1)  As best I can tell, no EMHC, including myself, has perished due to the H1N1 contagion/epidemic/pandemic/crisis.  Subject to change without notice.

(2)  The ban on receiving the Cup will continue through this quarterly Schedule.  The good news—our workloads are reduced by more than half.  The bad news—some of us, including myself, are now serving so infrequently we’re forgetting what to do from one month to the next.  And it appears as if the number of EMHC “no-shows” is increasing.  Out of fairness to everyone, please check this and every Schedule carefully.  Thanks.

I have placed a small number on the bottom of each of the pyx used for Messiah Village Visitation.  The numbers correspond to the Messiah Village Section Number located inside the front cover of each of the blue “Communion To The Sick” Booklets. I hope this will make it easier to match up the correct pyx with the correct Section after Mass.  Obviously, in order for this to work, the Minister-In-Charge for the 9:00 AM Messiah Visitation Mass has to fill the pyx with the appropriate amount of hosts that corresponds to the Messiah Section, using the numbers on the bottom of the pyx.

Reminders:

·         The pyx must be purified each time they are returned from a visit to Messiah Village. Procedures on how to accomplish this are in the “Messiah Village Drawer” in the Ministers’ Sacristy.

·         In this the flu season, please don’t forget to use the hand sanitizer after each Messiah room visit.  Small bottles of sanitizer are located in the “Messiah Village Drawer”. Please return them when finished—remember the 7th Commandment.

·         Ministers-In-Charge, please don’t forget to remove Monsignor King’s Chalice Veil from the altar after unfolding it at the Preparation of the Gifts. The veil should be placed on the credence table.

·         For 9:00 AM Masses that involve Messiah Visitation, one of the scheduled Ministers has also been assigned as MIC.  The remaining two Ministers will be MOH’s.  As we did last quarter, I ask everyone’s assistance that if you are in the congregation at a 9:00 AM “visitation” Mass, if 2 or 3 of you could go back to the Sacristy after Mass to help with the purifying and re-setting up for the 11:00 AM Mass, your efforts will be most appreciated.  That way the 3 Visitation Ministers can leave for Messiah Village as soon as possible out of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.

Please don’t forget the Parish Adoration Hour for Vocations from 7:00-8:00 PM on the following Sundays:

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS SCHEDULE

ASH WEDNESDAY—FEBRUARY 17, 7:00 AM:

*   Gene Olinger

(H) Joe Bahret

(H) Rick Mowery

NOTE—All three EMHC’s will also help distribute ashes.

 ---

ASH WEDNESDAY—FEBRUARY 17, 9:00 AM:

*  Jeannie Ishman

IMPORTANT NOTES PERTAINING TO THIS (9:00 AM) MASS:

·         This Mass will be celebrated with just one Extraordinary Minister, who will serve as Minister-In-Charge (MIC).

·         The MIC should ensure that the altar is set up as for a Daily Mass, with Sacramentary, both cruets, finger-washing bowl and towel, paten of unconsecrated hosts, chalice and linens already present.   A filled Paten plus the consecrated Hosts from the tabernacle should be a sufficient quantity for Communion, but the MIC should verify.

·         The MIC should light the tabernacle candles and the altar candles before the start of Mass.

·         The MIC will help distribute ashes, and should wash his/her hands in the credence closet after the Celebrant finishes.

·         The MIC has no duties during the Preparation of the Gifts.

·         The MIC may sit in the usual pew for Mass.  However, after the Our Father, the MIC should enter the Sanctuary on the organ side, to make it easier to retrieve the consecrated Hosts from the tabernacle.

·          The Host will be distributed by the Celebrant and MIC at the corner aisle on the pulpit side.

·         The MIC should repose the Blessed Sacrament as usual after Communion.  There is no need to undress the altar.

·         After Mass, the MIC should purify all vessels and set up for the 7:00 PM Mass, if possible.

LENTEN FRIDAY STATIONS AND MASS SCHEDULE

IMPORTANT NOTES PERTAINING TO 7:00 PM FRIDAY MASSES DURING LENT:

·         These Masses (see below) will be celebrated with just one Extraordinary Minister, who will serve as Minister-In-Charge (MIC).

·         The MIC should set up the altar as for a Daily Mass, complete with one Purificator, one Corporal, Daily Mass Chalice with pall, and Daily Mass Paten half-filled with small hosts and one large host.

·         The tabernacle key should be placed in the tabernacle.  In most cases, a half-filled Paten plus the consecrated Hosts from the tabernacle should be sufficient to handle a normal Lenten Friday Mass (approximately 75-100 people), but the MIC should verify.

·         The Sacramentary should be placed on the Altar Server’s seat nearest to the pulpit, since it is used for the Opening Prayer.

·         The MIC should light the tabernacle candles before the start of Stations.

·         The MIC is not needed for the Stations of the Cross, so he/she should join the congregation (in alb) in one of the back pews of the main body of the church around 6:55 PM.

·         The Cantor will light the altar candles immediately after the Stations of the Cross.

·          The Host will be distributed by the Celebrant and MIC at the center aisle.

·         The MIC should repose the Blessed Sacrament and undress the altar as usual after Communion.  The Sacramentary should be handed to the Altar Server closest to the pulpit, for the Closing Prayer.
