Notes from Last Quarter's Schedule
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
SCHEDULE FOR APRIL – JUNE 2010
GENERAL NOTES:
The deadline for requests for off-days, etc. to ensure that they can be properly considered in time before the next Schedule (JULY - SEPTEMBER) comes out is SATURDAY, JUNE 5. Please don’t be late, as I will need to get the next Schedule out early, since I will be out of town/the state most of June and July. And where I’ll be in southern
REMINDER—Effective January 1, 2010, my “new” (and only) e-mail address is listed below.
Our thoughts and prayers go with Diane Arke, Joe and Joanne Hancharick, and Jean Clawson as they retire from the Extraordinary Minister Apostolate.
H1N1 Flu/Communion Cup Ban Update:
This just in from the Bishops of the
As a result of what I’m sure was the intercession of St. Camillus of Lellus, patron saint of the flu, a sufficient number of the pathogens, microbes and/or other contagions that caused the H1N1 “crisis” have been “neutralized”. As a result, as I’m sure you all know by now, the Bishops have lifted the ban on receiving Communion from the Cup. Therefore, starting with the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday on April 1; no, this is not an April Fools Joke), I will again be scheduling seven EMHC’s for weekend Masses (five for the 7:30 AM Mass).
Even though five months have passed since we last used the Cup, hopefully we all remember where they’re stored, how to fill them before Mass, etc. For those (like me) who struggle with brain fades and almost complete memory loss from time to time, the Mass Procedures can be found on the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton web site:
http://www.steas-mech.org/EMHC_Mass_Procedures.html
Speaking of the Triduum, you are asked to attend the Holy Thursday Mass (in albs) on April 1 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the
Please don’t forget the Parish Adoration Hour for Vocations from 7:00-8:00 PM on the following Sundays:
MAY 2
Some of the Ministers have asked for a brief re-cap on what is involved in setting up for Daily Mass after the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass. To that end, I have placed in the credence table closet excerpts from the aforementioned Mass Procedures, including a picture showing how the altar should be set up, along with a list of vessels, linens and related items and where they can be found. Another copy is located in the Priest’s Sacristy cabinet that houses the daily Mass chalice, etc. Hope this helps.
I have also been asked for an explanation of how best to get Msgr. King’s vessels back into their carrying/storage case so that the lid will close. A legitimate question, since I, myself, struggled with this the first time I had to do it. But the solution lies somewhere between solving the Rubik’s Cube and the Sunday Sudoku in the Patriot-News. Here’s what to do. In the case, Monsignor has his chalice, the flat paten that he uses at Mass, and a silver bowl-like paten that he rarely if ever uses. After Mass, return the flat paten to its protective covering, then place it inside the “bowl” part of the bowl-like paten (which is in its own separate protective covering). Then turn the combination upside down, such that the order from top to bottom is (1) bowl-like paten; (2) flat paten); and (3) chalice. I don’t think any other order will work. I may be wrong, but I fear any other combination risks bending/denting one or more of the vessels, something that probably is frowned upon by canon law, not to mention Msgr. King. Hope this helps, too.
I have assigned 7 EMHC’s for the 7:30 AM Easter Sunday Mass, instead of the usual five.
Please check both sides of every page of this Schedule. I’m starting to get “complaints” about Ministers not showing up for their scheduled Masses.
