Special Christmas and New Years Schedule
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
REVISED SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER – DECEMBER 2009
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY PRIOR TO OCTOBER 18
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE WAY WE DO THINGS:
By now most of you know that the Bishops of the
So what happens next? For the time being and until further notice, Father Waldron has decided to go with 3 EMHC’s at all Masses. These will involve a Minister-In-Charge (MIC) and two Ministers of the Host (MOH), even at the 7:30 AM Mass. Obviously, at the Preparation of the Gifts these two MOH’s will now have candle lighting and chimney duties as well as accepting the Offertory gifts. The MIC will prepare the altar, etc. as usual.
Communion Stations for the distribution of the Host will be the same as always, with the Celebrant and one MOH on the pulpit side, and the MIC and the other MOH on the organ side.
For 9:00 AM Masses that involve Messiah Visitation, I have kept the same Ministers who originally were scheduled for visitation, and assigned one as MIC. The remaining two Ministers will be MOH’s. Unfortunately, after those Masses, the vessels still have to be purified, etc. Therefore I ask everyone’s assistance that if you are in the congregation at a 9:00 AM “visitation” Mass, if 2 or 3 of you could go back to the Sacristy after Mass to help with the purifying and re-setting up for the 11:00 AM Mass, your efforts will be most appreciated. That way the 3 Visitation Ministers can leave for
I no longer have all of the “special OFF requests” that I was given prior to making out the “old” Schedule, since I thought I was done for another 3 months. Therefore, if this “new” Schedule violates some of those special requests, I apologize in advance.
For those EMHC’s who are also parents of Altar Servers, in order to balance workloads and honor the special requests that I still remember, you may not be serving with your child(ren) at all of their scheduled Masses.
For those EMHC’s who are also in the Choir, I no longer have the Choir Schedule until the beginning of Advent like I did before, so I may schedule you in conflict with when the Choir sings. If so, again, my apologies.
For all Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses (except for the 5:00 PM), incense will be used (no, not to smoke out the dreaded H1N1 virus). Because the usual EMHC’s who would ordinarily handle this duty will be covering the candles and the chimneys, I have assigned a Minister of Incense, whose only job will be to bring the censer to the Celebrant at the Preparation of the Gifts. The Celebrant will inform these Ministers of the Holy Smoke of all they have to do, and when to do it. They only have to remind the Celebrant to put in an extra heaping spoonful of incense into the censer at the appropriate time!
For those of you who were gracious enough to step up to the plate and help Joe Pivovarnik out with his scheduled Masses, please accept my and Joe’s thanks. Please check the Schedule carefully; you may or may not be needed for those Masses any more, depending on how the schedule worked out. (Also, thanks to those who took the time to sign Joe’s Get Well Card. Joe is progressing well after 4 bypasses.)
Be assured that I have tried to balance EMHC workloads, special requests, and the like, as usual. But because of the rush in putting this new Schedule together, I may have made more than my usual number of goofs. If so, please bear with me. We’ll all get through this together. As the nuns used to say: “Offer it up for Lent.”
As the “new” Schedule progresses, if Father or I uncover circumstances that require changes to our Procedures or to what is written above, I will alert you via e-mail and/or Notices on the Sacristy counter. So when you come to serve, please check the counter for any new news.
Please check out this “new” Schedule carefully, because some or maybe all of your scheduled Masses will most surely have changed. Do not assume that just because you were not previously scheduled for November 1, for example, that you still aren’t. I have tried to minimize changes so as to minimize “mistakes”, but I need your help to make sure everyone shows up when they’re supposed to.
I know some of you have already made substitutions based on the “old” Schedule, some of which may no longer be necessary. Again, sorry. If applicable, out of courtesy, you may want to contact your sub to make sure everything is still as the way it should be. Again, the goal is to minimize confusion in all of this.
Confused? Shoot me an e-mail or give me a call.
Finally, I am repeating the General Notes from the “old” Schedule for those who haven’t read them yet:
The deadline for requests for off-days, etc. to ensure that they can be properly considered in time before the next Schedule (JANUARY - MARCH) comes out is SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6.
NEW MINISTERS-- We welcome our newest Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, who will begin serving at the Altar of Sacrifice on this Schedule:
Allen Brumbaugh Kathy Chasler Alexis Fludovich
Diana Buser Nick Chasler Joan Moore
Our thoughts and prayers go with John and Terri Christoph as they leave the EMHC Apostolate and the parish.
When visiting
Please don’t forget the Parish Adoration Hour for Vocations from 7:00-8:00 PM on the following Sundays:
OCTOBER 4 NOVEMBER 1 DECEMBER 6
Thanks to all who participated in the 40 Hours Devotions. Counting those in the Choir, we had 41 of our number in attendance. That’s very good.
Please note that this Fourth Quarter Schedule goes through the Holy Day Masses on January 1.
Please check both sides of every page of this Schedule.
